Title: 7 PM Tourney scoring
Post by: catman on April 06, 2016, 08:20:20 PM
Isn't the 3 a penalty enough, without it getting you -2?
The 3 you take as a team in real play, yet someone gets stuck with it as an individual.  And sometimes you have to take the 3 to ensure you get the 5 and your bid.

And if you set the other team you get only 1?  And -2 for the 3?
Crazy...

Everyone knows the 7pm tournament is flawed. It is unfair to play well and win in four hands and then get less points then someone who loses and plays all ten hands. The games should be set so that all people play equal amount of hands and the winner of the game is the one with most points after a set amount of predetermined hands.

Make a suggestion as to how points should be earned...

points should be earned simply on total score at the end of 10 hands.

So tonight my p could have given me the 5 as I led boss hearts trump.  Instead, he plays his other, and gets credit for taking the five himself.

Or are the 5 and 3 team things?

I will be changing how the 7 PM tournament scores points.
I need as much suggestions as possible so that everyone is happy with the change not just 1 person.  ;)

However im not sure if let everyone play 10 hands for each game would be the way to go. Might put the tournament over 2 hours. After you finish your game and are waiting in the lobby watch the remaining tables to see if they finish their games via hands or score.

it is usually hands not scores

So, then you could have say 7 or 8 hands, pick one, and just use total score.  You wouldn't have to stop at 52.  And you wouldn't need rewards for the 5, penalties for the 3, it would take care of itself.  I wouldn't even give points for making or losing a bid.   This would reward working as a team.

That's exactly the way it works at live tournaments.  Random partners.  Set number of hands, usually 8 or 10. Game isn't over at 52, but instead whatever the scores are at the end of set hands.  There is no other way to collect points other than your score.  You play as a team.  It's really not about winning or losing the game, it's about getting high scores.  As far as I can remember, we have never had a tie score at the end of all the games, although we do usually play 8 or 10 games.

Every round goes ten hands anyways so the length of time would not be any different. It is the same slow people who hold everyone up and they are usually not the ones finishing earlier than the faster more skilled players. When you reward points for blocking no trump bids and taking tricks it ruins the game. If you play for points the other team is less likely to want to get set and lose points. It makes for a much better game. Get rid of the wins and losses, play a set amount of hands and may the one with the most points win.

I like those suggestions. As usually i would make the changes and start a 3rd temporary tournament to work out the flaws and get opinions.
It will take me some time as im also working on other another 2 big projects. I will hang out in the Tournament Lobby too ask players what they think.

If i can get the Tournament disconnection problems fixed then I will make changes to how points are scored in the 8 PM Tournament. But i need to focus on that first.

I'll ask this question again ^

Because it happened, again.

The 9 PM tournament is a team effort where as the 7 PM is not so much. We already know that though.
In the future i will look at changing it to something more simple.
